Castellammare del Golfo
Castellammare del Golfo
History tells us that Castellammare del Golfo was founded to become the port of Segesta (Emporium Segestanorum). Later, it was occupied by the Arabs, to whom is attributed the creation of the imposing castle, subsequently expanded, first by the Normans then by the Swabians, who first called the small village “Castello a Mare” (Castle by the Sea). What will remain forever etched in the recollection of those who visit Castellammare del Golfo is the colors of its gulf, which range from turquoise to deep blue, offering intense visual sensations. The small town also boasts a strategic position, since it is within walking distance from the stunning archaeological site of Segesta, and from San Vito Lo Capo, towards which it extends, with its seaside village of Scopello, across the beautiful Zingaro Nature Reserve.
