 Favignana

Favignana

Favignana is the largest of the Egadi archipelago and, if viewed from above, it resembles a butterfly floating on the sea. About 10 miles from Trapani, it is the capital of the island and is divided in two by Mount Santa Caterina, 300 meters in height.

Due to its geomorphology, the island has numerous beaches and rock formations. The beaches of Lido Burrone, with its fine golden sand, Calamoni, and Cala Azzura are worth a visit. By sea, we recommend a visit to the picturesque bays of Previto, Faraglioni, and Punta Sottile, very unique for snorkeling excursions.

The most striking and most beautiful cove is Cala Rossa. With its unique colors, it manages to offer the most evocative moments during a holiday in the Egadi.

Abounding in history and culture are the ancient tuff quarries, true works of art from the past, and a source of economy for the island (a must to visit is the White Quarry Hotel constructed entirely within an ancient quarry pertaining to the Gandolfo family). The most fascinating tuff quarries are those in the area of Bue Marino, Cala Rossa, and Scalo Cavallo. Worth visiting are the Hypogeum Gardens of Villa Margherita. The island can be explored by bicycle or moped.

If you choose Favignana as a holiday destination, you should definitely visit the Florio tuna cannery, taste frascatole in broth, and after a day at the beach, enjoy a nice brioche with crushed ice in the splendid Piazza Matrice, a favorite spot for famous fashion designers.
